Welcome to the California Center for Urban Horticulture (CCUH). Our mission is to help Californians develop more sustainable gardens, landscapes and public parks with timely horticultural information. We are located at the University of California, Davis, and draw upon the knowledge and expertise of our partners in academia, industry and the public.
The field of urban horticulture is increasingly important to California's future. Our state is experiencing rapid growth; it has four of the ten fastest-growing cities in the country (US Census Bureau, June 2005). This presents important challenges to the state including increased residential demand for water, loss of wild lands and increased chemical inputs into our environment.
The CCUH was created to address these challenges and help mitigate them to improve the quality of life for urbanites. Our public programs, demonstration gardens, and research provide Californians with the horticultural information needed to create and maintain environmentally sound landscapes.
