In partnership with the Western Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. During the one full-day seminar we will explore the colonization strategies and range of variation in wood degradation patterns that each of these decay types encompasses. We’ll dive into detail on the advantages and disadvantages of biological control with Trichoderma species.
Francis will give background and reveal secrets of making excellent violins. Participants will be able to listen to audio files of violins made from fungal treated wood and compare the sound of a non-treated violin and a 2 million dollar Stradivarius.
We’ll round out our day with lectures on wood decay in our native oaks from Dr. Ted Swiecki and how decay could be an arborists’ best friend from Dr. Jim Downer. Dr. Igor Lacan will be updating us on the Wood Decay Diagnostic Research Project.
